Why do Border Collies work, and not other dogs?
Border Collies have the wolfish appearance, stare, and stalking technique of nature’s predators of geese. Geese would prefer to avoid predators and look for new, safer places to graze and swim.
What if they catch or harm the geese?
They won’t, because they are bred to be herding dogs, and have the instincts and training to bring stock in (or drive it away) unharmed.
Will the geese come back?
If they are not chased or harassed constantly, they will. Their instinct is to breed and nest where they are born. Our job is to keep them away and prevent that.
What about the laws protecting the geese?
The EPA has approved the use of Border Collies to chase geese away.
